constantly evolving. Primary baths are transforming from a place of basic
functionality to a space that offers a sanctuary and daily spa-like
experiences, finds a recent trends survey produced by the National Kitchen and
Bath Association. Many homeowners in Medina, Ohio, especially those looking to
age in place, cherish primary baths that provide a few minutes a day all to
themselves, devoid of text, tweet and even the patter of little feet, to relax,
recharge and wash away the stresses of the day.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Open floor plan baths are becoming increasingly popular
among homeowners in Strongsville, Ohio who are attracted to opening their
primary baths to a connecting bedroom, sitting room, dressing area or other
spaces in the home. Taking down bathroom walls increases the size of the bath
and creates a modern open feel. In primary baths where space is limited, we
often recommend installing skylights and windows above a tub to enhance the
sense of space. A sculptural freestanding bath can serve as a focal point of an
open floor plan bath. However, many homeowners (in name of service territory)
rarely use a tub.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In those cases
removing the tub altogether in order to create space for a large shower with
multiple showerheads and therapy options that can accommodate two bathers
simultaneously is a desirable option.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Use of linear or channel drains is another hot and valued
trend for primary baths. Linear drains are often a key component of curbless
entrances where the bathroom and shower floor are flush and seamless.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There is no sill or curb to step over.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Another advantage of linear drains is that
they can be placed anywhere in the shower area, including along a shower wall,
at the entrance or in the center of the space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Because the floor only has to be sloped in the direction of the linear
drain’s location, linear drains can eliminate the need for a shower enclosure
altogether.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Homeowners in Valley City, Ohio are gravitating to primary
baths that deliver spa-like experiences. Technology is a key component of the
in-home sanctuary.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Ranging from heated
floors to steam, color, aroma, and message therapy in the shower to smart
faucets and mirrors, technology is making it easier to use, enjoy and customize
your primary bath. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Similar to kitchens, a well-design bath is a clutter-free
bath. Linen storage cabinets, charging stations in vanity drawers, drawer
dividers to place make up, grooming aids, linens and other bathroom necessities
help to maintain a clean look and clutter-free countertops.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Medicine cabinets provide additional storage
for prescriptions, grooming products, and smaller items.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Open shelves are another popular storage
solution to hold towels, toiletries and decorative items.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Blues and greens are expected to be a dominant bathroom
color scheme in the coming years. Combined with white, blues and greens can
provide a calming aura to the primary bath.<o:p></o:p></p>

the kitchen of their dreams to think big.
Develop a wish list with every possible need, want and desire on
it. In many cases, not everything on the
wish list is doable. However, the process of listing everything you could
possible want helps designers to understanding your priorities and enables them
to develop solutions that result in an aesthetically pleasing, high-performing,
exceptionally functional kitchen.</p><o:p></o:p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Guidance for Developing a Kitchen Wish List<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Start with cabinetry.
At the top of most homeowners’ in Medina, Ohio wish lists is custom
cabinets. Custom cabinets enable
homeowners to have it their way, allowing homeowners to obtain the details and
features to make personal design statements in their home and outfit their new
kitchen to exacting requirements. Imagine cabinets that rise to the ceiling or
make the best use of awkward spaces.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Custom cabinets have almost unlimited style and finish
options. You are not limited to oak or cherry. Instead, you can opt for more
alternative woods such as bamboo, zebra, mahogany or whatever else your heart
may desire. Specialty finishes such as hand-brushed washes can be specified for
custom cabinets. There is a blank canvas for door styles as well.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Another advantage of investing in custom cabinetry is that
it provides the ultimate flexibility to select the right appliances. Many homeowners in Strongsville, Ohio love
the clean lines of counter-depth refrigerators that are flush with the
cabinetry. Custom cabinets can
accommodate any appliance dimension.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Speaking of appliances, many dream kitchen must-haves
include smart and high-performing appliances. Smart convection ovens, with
steam and air frying capabilities often are on top of the wish list along with
smart dual drawer model dishwashers that help to save water and energy. Smart faucets that can be activated by touch
or voice command are another extremely popular feature of a dream kitchen.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Next on the list is countertops. There’s a reason why quartz is the number one
countertop material among homeowners in Valley City, Ohio. Quartz is made from engineered stone and is
comparable in appearance to granite and marble however, it is not porous and is
far more resistant to staining, making Quartz easy to maintain and clean. There
are an almost limitless number of colors, patterns and finishes available.
Quartz can even incorporate veins in interesting patterns to resemble marble
and natural stone. Typical quartz slabs are the same thickness as granite, 3cm.
However, quartz is heavier than granite and much stronger, allowing for larger
tops and longer overhangs. Plus, quartz’ durability means that it won’t chip or
crack as easily as other surfaces. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">There’s good reasons to invest in a high-performing
sink. Studies indicate that homeowners
spend up to 50% of their time in the kitchen in front of the sink. A workstation sink is a multitask center,
doing far more than serving as a place to hold dirty dishes. They are used for preparing meals, washing
and rinsing everything, cleaning vegetables and other foods, rinsing pasta,
soaking pots and pans, bathing infants, and drying spaces for glasses and
dishes. The sink also serves as a water center, where an instant hot makes a
cup of tea in a matter of sectors or filtered and chilled water are available on
demand. And another compelling reason
homeowners in Bath, Ohio gravitate to workstation sinks is they save valuable
countertop space. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">We find that homeowners in Medina, Ohio are in one of two
range hood camps. There are those who
want their range hood to be statement-making and serve as a focal point in
their new dream kitchen. The other camp prefers their range hood be housed in
cabinetry, hidden from view.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">When developing your wish list make sure you consider both
lighting and backsplash. Dream kitchens
include chandeliers, pendants, LED in-drawer, in-cabinet, undercounter and
undercabinet LED accent lights and other fixtures that provide the necessary
task lighting for meal preparation.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">When it comes to backsplashes, slabs are growing in
popularity often in the same materials that is used for countertops. Slabs provide a dramatic ambience and are
easy to clean. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p>

at the recent International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City. Homeowners in Northeast Ohio can capitalize
on these trends to create the kitchens and baths of their dreams. <p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Wellness was front and center at ICFF and certainly on trend
with homeowners in Northeast Ohio who recognize that they can create in-home
sanctuaries in their primary baths where they can spend a few minutes all to
themselves, devoid of texts, tweets or even the demands of little feet.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Adding softer touches to your bathroom to
style the space in a way that is the most inviting is another hot trend known
as bathscaping. Bathscaping for homeowners in Medina, Ohio may include styling
around sculptural soaking tubs and shower steam systems equipped with
aromatherapy, audiotherapy, chromatherapy and message therapies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These trends were ever-present in ICFF
education programs and on the exhibit floor because they promote health and
wellbeing.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Sustainable and ecofriendly design and materials were front
and center at ICFF.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Vanities made from
recycled materials, renewal resources and manufacturers incorporating
eco-friendly processes were in the spotlight. There were tubs at ICFF made from
soy and a mineral composite that the manufacturer claims are eco-friendly. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Organic forms and curves were another ICFF bath and
furniture trend.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Soft, curvaceous shapes
are making a comeback.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In the bath,
organic forms and shapes were found in a wide spectrum of products ranging from
drawer pulls to soaking tubs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Organic
forms provide kitchens and baths with a sense of fluidity and elegancy that
serves as a foil to the rigidity of straight lines.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Metal finishes were prevalent on the ICFF show floor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Several manufacturers introduced gray-black,
gunmetal and black onyx finishes. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Workstation sinks that feature built-in colanders, cutting
boards, sieves and other convenient prep tools will continue to increase in
popularity among homeowners in Medina, Ohio for many good reasons.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Foremost among the are workstation sinks save
valuable countertop space and make meal preparation and clean up easier<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Technology integration into cabinets, furniture, mirrors and
other pieces continues to evolve.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Cabinets with built-in charging stations, fixtures with wireless
connectivity and smart home integration will continue to grow in popularity
among homeowners in Medina, Ohio.<o:p></o:p></p>

of homeowners in Northeast Ohio want in their dream kitchen. The reasons why open floor plans are so
popular are many. Open floor plans
create a relaxed and contemporary vibe in a new kitchen. Open floor plans can help maximize available
space and natural lighting. Plus, when
barriers between the kitchen and other rooms in the home are eliminated, open
floor plans promote social interaction.
It’s easy to interact with family members, friends, guests and others,
creating a sense of togetherness. It’s
easy to watch children in adjoining rooms while preparing meals. Open floor plans also provide improved
flexibility to use the space for multiple purposes that are in so much demand
by homeowners in Medina, Ohio working either full-time or part-time from home.
It’s easy to watch children in adjoining rooms while preparing meals.<p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">With the many benefits of open floor plans, why are they not
a feature of every kitchen?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They can be
if the kitchen is designed properly.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We
have seen common mistakes by homeowners in Medina, Ohio that wanted an open
floor plan.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Inadequate storage is among
the top mistakes homeowners make in open floor plan and just about every other
kitchen we see.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is the number one
regret of homeowners who have recently renovated their kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When you eliminate a wall to open the kitchen
to other living areas, you sacrifice countertop, cabinet and shelving
space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A professional kitchen designer
has the skill and experience to allow you to have an open floor plan that provides
the storage space you need and deserve.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lack of separation between different living spaces is
another common mistake we see with open kitchen floor plans. When we design an
open floor plan kitchen, we identify defined boundaries that create both visual
and functional separation between spaces. This can often be accomplished with a
kitchen island, using different flooring materials and making subtle
differences in lighting schemes between spaces.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Open floor plan kitchens generate more heat, steam and odors
than enclosed kitchens, making proper ventilation a necessity.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Insufficient ventilation will allow odors
from the kitchen to permeate into other rooms and furniture in the home.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A well-designed kitchen is a well-lit kitchen. Open floor
plans provide more opportunities to bring natural light into the space, but
they also require careful consideration of lighting placement to ensure that
the kitchen is bright and airy.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Open floor plan kitchens need to be functional and easy to
use. An open floor plan needs to accommodate the workflow and ensure that the
workhorses of any kitchen, – the refrigerator, sink and range/cooktop are
properly positioned.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Noise control is another factor to address when planning an
open floor plan kitchen otherwise noise from the kitchen can be disruptive to
other family members who may be on work calls, watching television, studying,
reading or listening to music. Many open floor plans require sound barriers
such as acoustic panels, rugs, or curtains.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How can you maximize the benefits of an open floor plan
kitchen and avoid common mistakes that comprise the beauty, functionality and
enjoyment of the space?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Give us a call

countertop material selected by homeowners in Northeast Ohio and throughout the
U.S. Quartz is made from engineered
stone and is comparable in appearance to granite and marble however, it is not
porous and is far more resistant to staining, making Quartz easy to maintain
and clean. There are an almost limitless number of colors, patterns and
finishes available. Quartz can even incorporate veins in interesting patterns
to resemble marble and natural stone. Typical quartz slabs are the same
thickness as granite, 3cm. However, quartz is heavier than granite and much
stronger, allowing for larger tops and longer overhangs. Plus, quartz’
durability means that it won’t chip or crack as easily as other surfaces. <o:p></o:p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Quartz finish options are another compelling reason that
makes it the number one choice among homeowners in Medina, Ohio. Quartz finishes have a depth that solid
surface materials such as Corian can match. <o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Quartz’ nonporous surface not only makes countertops easier
to clean, they also are healthier because quartz is bacteria and virus
resistant. A preferred technique to keep quartz countertops clean and looking
like new is to wipe them using dish soap, warm water, nonabrasive glass cleaner
and a microfiber cloth. Homeowners in
Medina, Ohio that encounter tougher stains on the quartz countertops are
encouraged to use a surface cleaner and nonabrasive sponge. Stubborn build ups can be removed by
combining rubbing alcohol and water.
This allows homeowners to remove stains without having to resort to
abrasive cleaners.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Another compelling reason homeowners in Northeast Ohio are
attracted to quartz countertops is that they don’t need to be resealed. Buffing quartz with a soft cloth is all that
typically is needed to create an extra shiny finish.<o:p></o:p></p><p>

the end of the health emergency, and revealed key insights into how Americans

homeowners in Northeast Ohio. Technological innovations have made kitchens
easier to use, more efficient and more enjoyable. Smart appliances are a main feature of a

steam and microwave ovens offer Bluetooth connectivity that can be operated
remotely from a smart phone or tablet and by voice command through Amazon
Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. You can
have your kitchen appliances recommend recipes based on ingredients in your
fridge and pantry, play music during meal preparation and dining, set timers
and preheat ovens on your way home.<p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">WIFI connectivity also provides homeowners in Medina County
with upgrade opportunities that previously were unimaginable such as adding air
frying capability to an existing oven.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

automatic ordering of groceries and dishwasher detergent when supplies are low
or automatic notifications when service is required.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>

time in their homes than they could have ever imagined a couple of years
ago. Working either full-time or
part-time has illuminated the need and desire for a space that provides a
refuge from day-to-day stresses. That
desire has created a boom in demand for a primary bath that provides a few
minutes for homeowners in Medina all to themselves devoid of texts, tweets or
even the sound of little feet. During
the past several years, we have designed numerous primary baths that provide
spa-like experiences in the home. Here
are a few of the secrets that we have learned to help homeowners in Medina
create the bath of their dreams.<o:p></o:p><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Heated floors add an element of luxury that is hard to
match, are not budget breaking and often overlooked. Imagine waking up on a
cold winter morning and entering a bath with warm and toasty floors? Similar to kitchens, baths need to
accommodate storage needs. We often
recommend a mix that includes vanities, cabinets, open shelving and shower
niches sized to accommodate shampoo, conditioners, liquid soap, razors, and
other products that our clients use daily.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Smart mirrors are another component that help to deliver
extraordinary experiences daily. Features often include adjustable integrated
LED lighting providing optimal illumination to apply makeup or shave,
touchscreen controls, antifog capabilities, Bluetooth connectivity, voice
controls and digital assistant integration with other smart home devices.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">Investing in higher-quality plumbing fixtures deliver
returns that homeowners in Medina want and deserve. A thermostatic shower valve
allows you to set your shower to a desired temperature and achieve that
temperate in a few seconds. There is no
need to manually balance hot and cold taps.
Placing the shower controls near the entrance or immediately outside of
the shower space eliminates the possibility that you will be sprayed with cold
water when you turn your shower on.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">How can you create an in-home spa that provides a few
minutes daily all to yourself, improves your health and recharges your
batteries? Give us a call at

Medina, OH 44256 and let us show you how
to make your dreams a reality.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: left;"><br /></p></div>Cabinet-S-Tophttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01196630565623441920noreply@blogger.com01977 Medina Rd, Medina, OH 44256, USA41.1366901 -81.758406512.826456263821157 -116.9146565 69.446923936178848 -46.602156500000007tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2134619042718613925.post-37011464545470488742023-05-30T06:26:00.005-07:002023-05-30T06:26:56.205-07:00Let there be Light<p>More than 9 in 10 homeowners reported that high-quality
lighting is an important design element for their homes, found a recent
lighting trend report and forecast conducted by The Harris Poll for
Lutron. The company revealed that in
addition to natural light, homeowners want customized lighting solutions
especially in the kitchen and primary baths. We have found that homeowners in
Northeast Ohio gravitate toward creating in-home spas that include customized
solutions that create a relaxing and rejuvenating vibe through products,
fixtures, design elements and light. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwuVjW0J4zU5cTWnp9omevSViTEade1zIGT576WuuZbG5r4_P38qy43xLE4MwKAn1TYOXVmmAuRPXxNi6W-MWtZpkmGIdS5l6bhHDMya7s9Bg9i5twTADjyInL1-izFxBX3xLKKC__6Jgs9rpTCeD71yj_Hgi1yO1xosMNQ9f0_H0gkblIswxZ5_rr" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img data-original-height="200" data-original-width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwuVjW0J4zU5cTWnp9omevSViTEade1zIGT576WuuZbG5r4_P38qy43xLE4MwKAn1TYOXVmmAuRPXxNi6W-MWtZpkmGIdS5l6bhHDMya7s9Bg9i5twTADjyInL1-izFxBX3xLKKC__6Jgs9rpTCeD71yj_Hgi1yO1xosMNQ9f0_H0gkblIswxZ5_rr=s16000" /></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Kitchen lighting also has come front and center. Homeowners
in Medina, Ohio require task lighting to make meal preparation easier and more
enjoyable and ambient lighting to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere for
family members and guests. An effective lighting plan is required to help
separate spaces in open floor plan kitchens and homes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We often specify pendants or chandeliers over
an island but recommend ambient lighting solutions for use in the connected
living and eating spaces.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Bringing Mother Nature into the home is one of the hottest
trends in home design today.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This can be
accomplished in kitchens and baths by installing windows, glass doors and
skylights that let natural light stream into the space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When natural light may not be practical or
possible, LED lights can offer homeowners in Medina the opportunity to change
color temperature and lighting output that can mirror actual sunlight.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The need for effective lighting is not limited to the
kitchen or primary bath.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Walk-in closets
and pantries also can be greatly enhanced by effective lighting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Lighting plays a key role in helping family
members prepare for the day or a night on the town.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>

Ohio spend months researching different products, styles, design trends
and other factors that they believe they want and need before coming to our
showroom to create their dream kitchens. We find that despite their best
efforts most homeowners in Medina, Ohio don’t know where to
begin. Here are best practices to help save time, improve focus and make
the process a lot more enjoyable and fun.</span></p><div style="text-align: center;"><img data-original-height="600" data-original-width="900" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgGsd9B7nykF1uiF7BliYYd8ti2E5I41ewM6XdYwikN9jVFhFmgVkdc3qVxtUoREOOUe1VGMZVe-MSlGDMcx5NGPkESCB-MdETytqRzKFxzKc_SnjgzLctOkLE2-GJ6l_WzQlHmnTuS8U7UtjlZFJ9GtiAof_H8BJI2wX1W1a81hG29oj6TdtP13yKz=w400-h266" width="400" /></div><p></p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 7.9pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Roboto; font-size: 11.5pt;">Write down where your existing kitchen
does not work. This may include lack of counter space, dim lighting,
outdated cabinets, lack of storage, maneuverability, and flow, among
others. Concurrently, document the must haves. These may include
custom cabinets, creating additional space, bringing more natural light to the
space, a pantry that has a place for everything and everything has a
place. Make a wish list that addresses your lifestyle. Kitchens
no longer serve utilitarian purposes. For many homeowners in Medina the
kitchen must serve multiple functions ranging from the hub of the home to
office space, classroom and café. Knowing the multifunctional requirements
of your dream kitchen enables designers to create different zones in the
kitchen for different tasks, which serves to maximize the functionality of the
available space. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 7.9pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Roboto; font-size: 11.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Invest wisely. The number one
regret of homeowners nationwide who recently renovated their kitchens is lack
of storage space. Invest in storage. Other areas of the kitchen where
making an investment will pay multiple dividends are quality cabinets and
countertops. There’s a reason why engineered quartz is the preferred
countertop for homeowners in Northeast Ohio. It is timeless, easy to
clean, won’t stain and offers styles and colors that will meet almost any décor
requirement.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 7.9pt;"><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Roboto; font-size: 11.5pt; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ligatures: none;">Budget realistically. While home
improvement television shows can be a great source of inspiration and ideas,
those shows do homeowners in Medina County a disservice with their timelines
and budgets. Almost always, the budgets do not include the cost of labor
and the timelines do not account for time necessary for design, permit
approval, scheduling, product fulfillment and other factors. If you need
assistance with creating a realistic budget or prioritizing your investment in
a dream new kitchen, give us a call at 330-239-3630 or make an appointment to

venue for kitchen and bath manufacturers to introduce new products, showcase
innovative technologies and highlight trends that they expect to dominate the
future of kitchens, baths, and home design.
KBIS 2023, held January 31-February 2 in Las Vegas did not
disappoint. <p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">KBIS confirmed that wellness is not a fad or fleeting
infatuation. Wellness will continue to grow in popularity among homeowners in
Northeast Ohio who want and expect their homes to perform more effectively and
efficiently.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>KBIS exhibitors showcased
the latest products and technologies that enable homeowners to create in-home
refuges and spa-quality experiences in their primary baths.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Featured were therapeutic showers offering
steam, color, aroma and sound therapies that provide a refuge for homeowners to
spend a few minutes a day, all to themselves, devoid of text, tweets and even
little feet to relax, recharge and wash away the stresses of the day.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Workstation sinks were another trending feature at
KBIS.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>BOCCHI’s Baveno Hide-Away Sink
System won Best in Show at KBIS 2023.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>This workstation allows homeowners to easily convert the sink into continuous
counter space that completely hides the faucet, maximizing workspace. Sink
covers, multiple faucet options, cutting boards, colanders and roller mats
create a true workstation sink experience.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Soft curves to countertops, faucets, soaking tubs and sinks
were prevalent throughout the KBIS show floor, affording a new modern style
that is calming and relaxing, evoking the desire for a less tenuous and
stressful post pandemic time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Industrial
chic was another KBIS trend. Faucets featuring springs, dual white and polished
nickel finishes and rounded square levers were reminiscent of the motifs
closely associated with the industrial revolution.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Fluted surfaces were another ever-present feature at
KBIS.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>All of the major quartz
manufacturers featured pleated slabs as did most of the porcelain tile
manufacturers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The same manufacturers
also introduced an expanded inventory of products that can be used indoors as
well as outdoors to provide more options for homeowners that want to expand
their living space outdoors without compromising style, quality or
functionality.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Two other trends at KBIS were smarter toilets and products
made specifically to improve laundry room look and experiences.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We saw great looking sinks and fixtures that
take laundry rooms to the next level.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Similarly, toilets appear to have become much more intelligent, many of
which featured bidet functions, seats that automatically open and close, night
lights, self-cleaning capabilities and blue-tooth functionality.<o:p></o:p></p>

<br />
Designer: Heather Markwood of Living Chic<br />
Location: Raleigh, North Carolina<br />
Size: 650 square feet (60 square meters)<br />
<br /><b>
Homeowners’ request.</b> “The homeowners love to entertain, but their previous
kitchen was small with a nonfunctional island,” says designer Heather Markwood,
who used Houzz Pro Mood Boards to showcase material selections to the
homeowners. “They craved space and a huge island to entertain guests.”</p><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: left;"><p class="MsoNormal"><b>
Special island feature</b>. Lowered dining table extension. “The additional lower
table offers flexibility to use for additional seating or a serving board for
food when they are hosting a large gathering,” Markwood says.<br />
<br /><b>
Other special features.</b> Marble-look quartz countertops and range backsplash
(London Grey by Caesarstone). Marble tile in a herringbone pattern on the sink
wall. The island is a soft blue-gray (Blue Lace by Benjamin Moore). The
perimeter cabinets are white (Snowbound by Sherwin Williams).<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “The key to the selection process is to put all the
materials together to ensure all the tones and elements work together,”
Markwood says.<br />
<br /><b>
“Uh-oh” moment.</b> “We found out that the overhang on the island with the span was
unstable,” Markwood says. “The homeowner wanted knee space, so we came up with
a design solution for corbels to add the extra support needed.”<o:p></o:p></p></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjapot5qaJIS0cDHfRukXGE9pCAeUNhjL_GGNuVXja4C05jVK5QBA8x5FQSdbLpqW3_xOzZGGha8nwLk6tQ76iDfKenX6XmR4yo6hObFL2QBeiCRkq8Tv0wvQDnWlVdkEJAxWIq8J5wsxLpYI3aQ50duWwsz7Cp-bsZaPqCe-JJ2sv5q3eX-H9Qw3Bq" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjapot5qaJIS0cDHfRukXGE9pCAeUNhjL_GGNuVXja4C05jVK5QBA8x5FQSdbLpqW3_xOzZGGha8nwLk6tQ76iDfKenX6XmR4yo6hObFL2QBeiCRkq8Tv0wvQDnWlVdkEJAxWIq8J5wsxLpYI3aQ50duWwsz7Cp-bsZaPqCe-JJ2sv5q3eX-H9Qw3Bq=s16000" /></a></div><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><p class="MsoNormal">2. <b>Curved Countertop</b></p><p class="MsoNormal">
Designer: Rachel James-Dolan<br />
Builder: Sneller Custom Homes and Remodeling<br />
Location: Montgomery, Texas</p><p class="MsoNormal">
<b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “The previous kitchen had some flow and efficiency
problems,” says Jenny Sneller, who co-owns Sneller Custom Homes and Remodeling
with her husband, Matt. The homeowners and their designer found the
construction firm by searching for builders on Houzz.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Removing all the cabinets and starting fresh gave us the
opportunity to make a complete kitchen with more spatial awareness and
function,” Sneller says. “Initially the client just wanted to add upper
cabinets so there was no gap to the ceiling, but the designer worked with the
homeowner and presented ideas and designs to start new. Keeping the sink and
appliances in the same locations, reconfiguring and moving the island and
finishing out the rest of the space gave the client the solution to their
problems.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Special island feature.</b> Curved countertop design.
“The house flow is very linear,” Sneller says. “The kitchen and living room are
basically one room, so the curve of the island on one side with the straight
sofa back opposite it created a better walking space that didn’t feel like a
hallway.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Other special features.</b> Green cabinets (Rocky River
by Sherwin-Williams). Creamy gray island base and vent hood (Perfect Greige at
50% by Sherwin-Williams). White polished 3D backsplash tile. Flower motif tile
behind range. Macaubas Fantasy quartzite countertops. Rose gold knobs on the
upper cabinets, matte black pulls on the lowers. Matte white appliances.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Designer tip.</b> “Form follows function,” Sneller says.
“We started the remodel process by fully understanding how the client and their
family used their kitchen. From there, we were able to design the cabinetry and
flow to work around their needs. We all love the clean lines of open shelving,
but for this family they needed storage and function. When starting with
functional design in a kitchen, the colors and feel follow shortly after.”<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>“Uh-oh” moment.</b> “Once the cabinets were demoed and
the cabinet installer sketched the new ones on the walls, we quickly noticed
how short and narrow the pantry door felt,” Sneller says. “We were fortunate
that the framer was able to widen the space for the door, and the vendor was
able to get us a new taller and wider door very quickly. It really helped
finish out the space and make it feel like a cohesive remodel.”<o:p></o:p></p>

T-Shaped Bar Counter</b><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Designer: Jenny Butler of Shelter Custom-Built Living<br />
Location: Charleston, South Carolina<br />
Size: 435 square feet (40 square meters)<br />
<br />
<b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “The homeowner requested an open-plan kitchen with
high ceilings balancing minimalist and luxury, along with a uniquely shaped
island mixing white oak elements with marble,” says designer Jenny Butler, who
used Houzz ideabooks to share design ideas with the homeowners. “The homeowner
wanted the island to be the focal point but also be used for storage and
entertainment, not appliances. To achieve this request, we enlarged the size of
the back kitchen, allowing for a second paneled dishwasher, built-in coffee
system, microwave, warming drawer and oven.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island feature</b>. T-shaped island design. “The unique T-shaped
island was designed to allow family and guests to comfortably eat and socialize
face to face,” Butler says. “To achieve this request and maintain a modern
feel, we designed the island in white oak veneer. This material allowed us to
miter the waterfall bar top leg for support, ensuring the support would not
interfere with bar chair placement or legs. The white oak veneer is easy to
clean and care for.”<br />
<br />
<b>Other special features.</b> Calacatta Apuano honed marble slab backsplash
and countertops with waterfall edges. Glossy white island base, range hood,
paneled appliances and other details. White oak lower cabinets, interior upper
cabinet boxes and flooring. Black accents.<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “To achieve a sleek, uniform look in your kitchen,
color-match your wall, ceiling and trim paint to match your cabinets,” Butler
says. “Minimizing the number of shades creates a clean aesthetic and does not
compete with the other materials or textures used in the same area.”<br />
<br />
<b>“Uh-oh” moment.</b> “When 2D and 3D kitchen layouts did not help our client
visualize the T-shape bar layout and flow of traffic in the kitchen, we decided
to tape out the entire kitchen layout on the floor to scale for our client to
walk through, feel and understand the design cultivated for this area,” Butler
says. “Everything stayed as originally planned, and our client could not be
happier with her experience and kitchen design.”<o:p></o:p></p>

</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br />
Designer: Sierra Fallon of Rumor Designs<br />
Location: Steamboat Springs, Colorado<br />
Size: 374 square feet (35 square feet); 17 by 22 feet<br />
<br />
<b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “The homeowner wanted to modernize the style of the
home, which was incredibly traditional in style and with formal spaces,”
designer Sierra Fallon says. “They are a young family, so creating fun yet
practical areas to be with family and friends was important in the design. We
wanted to open up the layout and create a much larger island in order to
provide an informal dining area for their family since the main dining room is
in a formal space in a separate room. They wanted to add color to the room to
balance the existing flagstone floors and beautiful woodwork.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island features</b>. Beverage fridge and open storage. “The
homeowner wanted to include an open area to showcase her cookbooks, and since
we didn’t have room for a full-depth cabinet in this space, it created a
perfect opportunity to incorporate that detail. Adjacent to the end of the
island is an informal living room, so it made sense to have an undercabinet
fridge there for easy access. Setting those two elements together added to the
more casual, informal, family-friendly vibe of this space and gives an
opportunity to break up the cabinetry with a pop of color.”<br />
<br />
<b>Other special features.</b> Green perimeter cabinets (Rosemary by
Sherwin-Williams). White ceramic tile backsplash. Quartz countertops (Alpine
Mist by Caesarstone.) Large-scale limestone flooring. Wire-brushed white oak
island base with black glazing. “A glazed wood door would generally fit well in
a traditional-style kitchen, but we applied it onto a slab-face door style,
which created a more contemporary look while paying homage to the traditional
elements of the home,” Fallon says. “The texture of the wood adds a whole other
beautiful detail and depth to the cabinets.”<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “When starting a remodel, it’s important to take into
account the house itself and the style of the original home,” Fallon says.
“Even with all of the furniture removed from this house, the actual bones of
the house are very formal, so it would not have worked to put a super modern
kitchen into it. The colors, organic themes and door style of the kitchen were
intentional in tying back to the home itself while also creating a unique space
specific to this client.”<br />
<br />
“Uh-oh” moment. “The countertops are a quartz product in a honed finish, and
during the install there were some complications,” Fallon says. “Honed finishes
can be tricky, especially on a man-made product since it shows oils and stains
a lot more than a polished finish. On this project, the fabricator had to use
two slabs to cover the island since it is so large, and the seam between the
two slabs became very obvious when they first installed it. Not only that, but
the adhesive they used ended up getting spread around the seam. This would have
disappeared on a polished countertop, but the honed countertop showed
everything on these slabs and it looked awful. The fabricator had to replace

Designer: Jessica Nelson Design<br />
Location: Seattle<br />
Size: 140 square feet (13 square meters); 10 by 14 feet<br />
<br />
<b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “They have a beautiful view of Mount Rainier out
the sink windows, and their kitchen was closed off and completely segmented
from the rest of the house,” designer Jessica Nelson says. “We opened up a wall
and expanded their kitchen to make it so much more functional. Our clients have
a fun style, and they wanted something both classic and bold, so we had lots of
fun with a moody backsplash and hood.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island features.</b> A compact island offers seating for two,
storage on two sides and plenty of style with a soapstone countertop and black
base. “We wanted to include an island to help create a focal point in the
room,” Nelson says. “Also, they have an amazing view out the windows above the
sink, so we wanted to create a great spot to sit and take in the view.”<br />
<b><br />
Other special features.</b> Dark green backsplash tile. White Shaker-style
inset cabinets (White Dove by Benjamin Moore). Brass accents.<o:p></o:p></p></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgnHaP_yvdfaJHA4vyAoI-qpDiSpheIEAkbby2WGhCmkAnB_ZouFTmg9wjKrU5YRH62LuBQWOQJagNj_k042yLG8NwPIYptYbFxWS1DYKdz7tCThrfX97utUgq8Seg75qdCza_SIav2ngmjCH4V4SZBGf_yZRxWASz4K2GeG6OJfHQv0AfT58D--Y7e" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgnHaP_yvdfaJHA4vyAoI-qpDiSpheIEAkbby2WGhCmkAnB_ZouFTmg9wjKrU5YRH62LuBQWOQJagNj_k042yLG8NwPIYptYbFxWS1DYKdz7tCThrfX97utUgq8Seg75qdCza_SIav2ngmjCH4V4SZBGf_yZRxWASz4K2GeG6OJfHQv0AfT58D--Y7e=s16000" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><p class="MsoNormal">6. <b>Furniture-Style Storage</b><br />
<br />
Designer: Kristyn Harvey Interiors<br />
Location: Solana Beach, California<br />
Size: 286 square feet (27 square meters); 13 by 22 feet<br />
<br />
<b>Homeowners’ request. </b>“The homeowners envisioned a bright and open
kitchen that did not obstruct their backyard views,” designer Kristyn Harvey
says. “They are big cooks and have two young children, so they wanted a kitchen
that functions as a family gathering place.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island feature.</b> Furniture-style storage unit. “The mom wanted to
be able to cook while also helping the kids with their homework, so the island
was designed with a furniture piece on the end that also functions as a
homework station with charging cables for the kids’ future laptops and drawers
for school supplies.<br />
<br />
“One drawer is a catchall for miscellaneous items that the kids bring home,
like little drawings or goodie bags. The second drawer is for homework
supplies, such as pencils and crayons, etc. The upper open shelf is for the
kids’ backpacks, lunch bags and water bottles so their mom can easily pack
their lunches in the morning. The lower open shelf has rattan open-weave
baskets for storing dried goods like onions, potatoes and garlic.”<br />
<br />
“Tip: Use a white pillowcase inside the open-weave rattan basket to place dried
goods. This protects them from being exposed to light so they don’t start
sprouting and allows enough ventilation so they don’t rot. This gives you the
woven basket look without sacrificing functionality.”<br />
<br />
<b>Other special features.</b> Plain sawn white oak island base. Porcelain slab
countertops. Stacked-pattern backsplash tile in varying shades of white (Cloe
by Bedrosians Tile and Stone). White cabinets (White Dove by Benjamin Moore).<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “Forgo upper cabinets and go for more windows or open
shelving in its place to open up the room and add more light,” Harvey says.
“And use drawers for everything. This allows you to be able to visualize
everything in the drawer, instead of digging into the back of a cabinet.”<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgtVvs8DagJT5bFxDnKxjADcqFWj5o4RBiBs0S-jPbqy9A6vUOCXMWhREUgFtAM2WTCH6tWqiqepdpDY_uz33ZaOPtlysRQ340q7NDznPMPRnGhaf_uWhjhg3T13MjwBlfYQs5iU7wA_uMWRKzO22eWgW3kTvRGHse4MWWqUCLFuOrHu5S1bz-AT4uq=s16000" /></div><br /></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">7. <b>Usable Butcher Block Top</b><br />
<br />
Architect: Stacy Eisenmann of Eisenmann Architecture<br />
Location: Albany, California<br />
Size: 146 square feet (14 square meters); 11½ by 12¾ feet<br />
<br />
<b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “The homeowner wanted a kitchen island, and the
original kitchen footprint was too small, so we moderately enlarged it by
creating a bay window niche to accommodate the sink cabinets,” architect Stacy
Eisenmann says. “Also, the client’s favorite color is periwinkle, and that
became an important element in the finish design.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island feature.</b> Maple butcher block top. “The island butcher
block was constructed with the ability to chop on, providing a more integrated
workstation that can be accessed from all sides of the kitchen,” Eisenmann says.
“The island has storage to meet homeowner-specific needs — drawers on one side,
microwave on the other side and open bookshelves for their cookbook library.
The open shelving also connects visually with the upper-cabinet open shelves
that flank the cooktop.”<br />
<br />
Other special features. Gray-blue upper cabinets and storage wall cabinets
(Harlequin Blue by Benjamin Moore). Blue-purple lower cabinets (Stratford Blue
by Benjamin Moore). Calacatta Caldia marble perimeter countertops. Stacked
matte white backsplash tile. Maple veneer island base and open shelves.<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “We love the proportion of the 2-by-9-inch tile in a
kitchen backsplash,” Eisenmann. “Also, the periwinkle color needed something to
contrast with it, and in this case the maple upper cabinets were essential to
help elevate the cabinet color.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhP8tUc2UJ7cmvAUeED0mwgNVx_PoaxjCuSSbB2LZT28AQ46Xu4o5XL4VdAjVKpe94uUfHCgbT2j_oCz3tTdbEfFfVg9zwAy-r7UD3LKMnwGoFtMus_5qT7A3p0ib_-K27x6HndtaNZQ0y1rTX3g_-ebHobKkYsBLvDcQvfYUxj6afXlfbrjiNVQiTf" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhP8tUc2UJ7cmvAUeED0mwgNVx_PoaxjCuSSbB2LZT28AQ46Xu4o5XL4VdAjVKpe94uUfHCgbT2j_oCz3tTdbEfFfVg9zwAy-r7UD3LKMnwGoFtMus_5qT7A3p0ib_-K27x6HndtaNZQ0y1rTX3g_-ebHobKkYsBLvDcQvfYUxj6afXlfbrjiNVQiTf=s16000" /></a></div><br /></div><p class="MsoNormal">8. <b>Movable Bar-Height Workstation</b><br />

Designer: Amy Miller Weinstein of AMW Design Studio<br />
Location: Birmingham, Michigan<o:p></o:p></p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">
</p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Homeowners’ request.</b> “The old kitchen lacked counter
space and storage for larger equipment,” designer Amy Miller Weinstein says.
“There was a very large walk-in closet that backed up to the original kitchen,
so I presented the idea of using that space to be a prep kitchen. We placed the
ovens and refrigerator in that space, as well as their large coffee maker,
Cuisinart, Vitamix and microwave. This additional space solved their problems
and keeps all the unsightly necessities of an active kitchen out of sight.”<br />
<br />
<b>Special island feature.</b> Movable bar-height working countertop. “Because
she has chronic back issues, the homeowner prefers working on her laptop at a
42-inch-height counter,” Weinstein says. “We added the furniture piece at the end
of the island to accommodate her request. It can be moved and tucked away if
they are entertaining, but for the everyday look, it’s harmonious with the
overall design.”<br />
<br />
<b>Other special features.</b> Custom mahogany cabinets. Honed quartzite
countertops. Mosaic backsplash tile.<br />
<br />
<b>Designer tip.</b> “The prep kitchen is the best new-old trick in kitchen
design,” Weinstein says. “With open kitchens becoming the norm, people need a
spot where all the functional activities happen. I recommend carving out a prep
area to anyone planning a new kitchen space.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj4_S7wX03RiK2EXIUX0TO-V2Uf2rOsuq-5z4cNApJlGXQ9lfh4UqjuNz6P6rqxPgwPPpPkhpLY_J-xEYtzP5zRLr3gZTSvyYrGstQ4dLckRzq5rN_wEv-Hr6BkNLYgqi7YMIkfI-DUYY2J-mg4QCRDTcYX-_95iQFxh5TJEw7P7Hojl9erH8m89UBW" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="672" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj4_S7wX03RiK2EXIUX0TO-V2Uf2rOsuq-5z4cNApJlGXQ9lfh4UqjuNz6P6rqxPgwPPpPkhpLY_J-xEYtzP5zRLr3gZTSvyYrGstQ4dLckRzq5rN_wEv-Hr6BkNLYgqi7YMIkfI-DUYY2J-mg4QCRDTcYX-_95iQFxh5TJEw7P7Hojl9erH8m89UBW=s16000" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">9. <b>Two-Sided Seating</b><br />

create a dream kitchen is that their existing kitchen does not work well or
meet their needs. We frequently hear from homeowners that their kitchens don’t
have enough storage capabilities, countertop space or cabinetry.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Other common reasons are lack of
maneuverability, appearance and poor ventilation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The role of the kitchen has been transformed since the
global pandemic.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>No longer does a
kitchen serve the basic functions of preparing and cooking meals.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kitchens need to serve multiple purposes from
classroom and office space to café and coffeeshop.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These new requirements make having adequate storage
a more pressing necessity to help ensure clean, clutter-free workspaces. In
fact, the number one regret of homeowners in Medina, OH who have renovated
their kitchens is inadequate storage and not investing more in organizational
amenities.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A well-designed kitchen is an
organized kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That’s why we ask
homeowners in Northeast Ohio how they use their kitchen and for what purposes,
who uses the kitchen most often and when is it used? We want to know what homeowners
in Northeast Ohio like about their existing kitchens and what they want to
change?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What needs to improve?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What will make your kitchen the envy of your
neighborhood?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We help homeowners in Medina County maximize the space and
functionality of their kitchen by often specifying pull out corner cabinets
equipped with organizers that make pots, pans, small appliances and other
kitchen gadgets easily accessible. Homeowners<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>in Medina County with smaller kitchen footprints or who demand more
storage space appreciate the fact that drawers offer more storage space than
cabinets.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Another key to designing a kitchen that is not only
beautiful but meets the functional needs of homeowners in Northeast Ohio is to
create separate areas for preparing meals, cooking meals and storing
foodstuffs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That’s why a savvy and
professional kitchen designer wants to know who cooks, how often and for how
many.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Knowing this information enables
the designer to create work areas to prevent family members from running into
one another in each area of the kitchen and to avoid placing items such as an
island in a place that will inhibit traffic flow.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We find poorly designed kitchens do not have adequate
countertop space next to or opposite the range or cooktop and/or refrigerator.
That’s why when designing a new kitchen, it is important to know how many
family members prepare meals in order to specify the right amount of countertop
space that allows more than one cook to work in the kitchen at the same time.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Proper positioning of appliances also contributes to traffic
flow in a well-designed kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Many
homeowners in Northeast Ohio prefer dual ovens to be positioned horizontally
instead of vertically to prevent having to bend down to use one of the ovens.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There also is a need to ensure there is
adequate space for doors of ovens, dishwashers, and refrigerators to open
freely so they don’t bump into anything.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Providing adequate room for recycling containers is another
essential in a well-designed kitchen that can be often overlooked. Container
size is dictated by how often the kitchen is used for cooking and for the
number of family members in the home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Similarly, ventilation needs to be a priority, especially in
open floor plan kitchens that connect to other rooms in the home. The
ventilation solution should be capable of removing all odors, steam and grease
so it does not migrate to furniture, countertops, seating or other areas of
your home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>

Perhaps you foresee your elderly parents moving in with you one day. Or maybe you require wheelchair accessibility. When you’re designing a kitchen with these needs in mind, the following 10 tips will help make it safer and easier to navigate.</p><p style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw970JJZQ7nV2F0HLAZLrBPKGx2FLuVM3zkXJcG81a4knQ5vlNvOUJ7fO8VNS39SIy9X_ll8tWuOLCR8f9ygyGTHMcRh-ZMplmUUvx1SSNhtQdQS4l8tuKxJD1CTUnX1Q0oLiys-XwxkfTQWcviHlulRwdkpPTfqx8ZQittm3asVbKIKrIhJ0kzkvl/s640/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="426" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw970JJZQ7nV2F0HLAZLrBPKGx2FLuVM3zkXJcG81a4knQ5vlNvOUJ7fO8VNS39SIy9X_ll8tWuOLCR8f9ygyGTHMcRh-ZMplmUUvx1SSNhtQdQS4l8tuKxJD1CTUnX1Q0oLiys-XwxkfTQWcviHlulRwdkpPTfqx8ZQittm3asVbKIKrIhJ0kzkvl/w213-h320/1.jpg" width="213" /></a> <b>1. Install a Pullout Pantry</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">Because it lets you see everything at a glance without
having to shuffle items around, homeowners of all ages will find a pullout
pantry useful. But besides being convenient, drawers that give you easy access
to your canned goods and cereal boxes also put less strain on your back and
knees.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3iy3Ndry-8Gn47NQQOg38j4oPNpyo_Or9G-II68sC9EArqaQHsQvxg1NZXxwcwpcuhwguY5Rp1TEtPTvXUMCkO5H4SpuWp39yTkYhj2J91T85Qm03Xw1152BKbEbE1Dv35drlTKDNE11bZP6dalo2wqMXoUyCGtqPsv6FGMzYePyXJ_j8aZiOttx/s640/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="426" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3iy3Ndry-8Gn47NQQOg38j4oPNpyo_Or9G-II68sC9EArqaQHsQvxg1NZXxwcwpcuhwguY5Rp1TEtPTvXUMCkO5H4SpuWp39yTkYhj2J91T85Qm03Xw1152BKbEbE1Dv35drlTKDNE11bZP6dalo2wqMXoUyCGtqPsv6FGMzYePyXJ_j8aZiOttx/s320/2.jpg" width="213" /></a><span style="text-align: left;">You can even use the pullouts to store heavy portable

Keep the Sink Close to the Stove</b><br />
<br />
As we age, it’s harder on our arms and backs to carry big pots full of water to
and from the cooktop. If any spills on the way, it becomes a slipping hazard.<br />
<br />
Keep your sink close to your stove, but be sure to leave workspace in between.
It defeats the purpose if you’re forced to hold a pot longer than is
comfortable because you can’t find a place to set it down.<o:p></o:p><p></p></div><span style="text-align: left;"></span></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzisRmEyKd97EixrsPnttEonx9S-4cL5azM9-yO003SM4OeWRMpnp4VYjn29_PeEn35IWRuQj1z0vLiolH43bAnYAaD5J8VV35QOYBbEVcehQ77elVXWniTwMU3IKlVH95OVfDaLvLRg3j-4B8zT4-5kiGsVJsfcoqkm8xQUzxYZCniloCt3DxL839/s640/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="426" data-original-width="640" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzisRmEyKd97EixrsPnttEonx9S-4cL5azM9-yO003SM4OeWRMpnp4VYjn29_PeEn35IWRuQj1z0vLiolH43bAnYAaD5J8VV35QOYBbEVcehQ77elVXWniTwMU3IKlVH95OVfDaLvLRg3j-4B8zT4-5kiGsVJsfcoqkm8xQUzxYZCniloCt3DxL839/s320/4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p class="MsoNormal">Where it isn’t possible to have the sink on the same side as
the stove (or if the layout won’t work for the way you cook), there’s another
option. Place the sink across from the stove, and you’re only 180 degrees and a
step or two away. This works well in galley-style kitchens.<o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJ7mLgWiZdXt1ftfYrFwmPURhKSAxWHji8MP3AGtBeg5mvTRXaQmRk75zUla--1oxp74qnwalhb0Opth7MpON_Utb6QM8w9-4XXRMoE3_LSCDnFEFErqLbg5uAKjgeYpkrDiQGo4gNeZxnsbQWMIj9hXEs5FkRW98hXGrhU25kiMGEFRUWgWLRQIP/s640/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="426" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQJ7mLgWiZdXt1ftfYrFwmPURhKSAxWHji8MP3AGtBeg5mvTRXaQmRk75zUla--1oxp74qnwalhb0Opth7MpON_Utb6QM8w9-4XXRMoE3_LSCDnFEFErqLbg5uAKjgeYpkrDiQGo4gNeZxnsbQWMIj9hXEs5FkRW98hXGrhU25kiMGEFRUWgWLRQIP/s320/5.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><br /><p class="MsoNormal"><b>3. Rug That’s Too Small<o:p></o:p></b></p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">“A great rug can be the making of your living room. It
grounds your furniture and, in an open-plan space, defines the living area,”
says Gabrielle Reinhardt, interior designer at Berkeley Interiors.<br />
<br />
“The most common mistake people make when purchasing a rug is choosing one
that’s too small for both the room and the furniture in it,” Reinhardt says. “A
too-small rug sits separately from the furniture in the room, making the space
look disjointed and feel uninviting.”</p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhge-xMc4UyAFuR39t0NylmwKYoaAT6pjybVVeyDjGDyFAVpuwE0rwIz4UY885yQu01WeLkpFu6BG4UFRn70KyGUCqNTn3Iq0EBownRKW69MsjG627iyY8puvVL-P97Ivw5IJBPlyaWWRPNz-lAluA50_J_Dpb_QXEUeZ_5-Cp6twarQWNLFs2NvNR-" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="731" data-original-width="1000" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhge-xMc4UyAFuR39t0NylmwKYoaAT6pjybVVeyDjGDyFAVpuwE0rwIz4UY885yQu01WeLkpFu6BG4UFRn70KyGUCqNTn3Iq0EBownRKW69MsjG627iyY8puvVL-P97Ivw5IJBPlyaWWRPNz-lAluA50_J_Dpb_QXEUeZ_5-Cp6twarQWNLFs2NvNR-=w400-h293" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>2. Television Is the Focus of the Room<br />
<br />
</b>“The television is the ruin of most living rooms,” Reinhardt says. “Many
homeowners will choose an oversize television that is too big for the room and
then center all the furniture around it, forgetting that the living room is for
entertaining and conversation too.<b><br />
<br />
</b>“I also often see living rooms with nothing in them but a television and a
modular sofa or a sofa and a chaise,” she says. “A bare set-up such as this
makes the room feel cold and unwelcoming, and suggests that the living room has
no purpose beyond watching television — which can be an instant conversation
killer.”<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Solution.</b> “The television can be an integral part of your
living room without being the focus of it. The key is to conceal it as much as
possible and create a space that performs dual functions as a watching zone and
relaxing/social space,” Reinhardt says.</p><p class="MsoNormal">“A built-in wall of cabinetry or a ready-made cabinet with shelves are two
smart ways to detract attention from a television or conceal it altogether. Use
the open sections of the cabinetry to house books, photos, ornaments and other
interesting things that will draw the eye from the television and add
personality to the room,” she says.<br />
<br />
“Also consider having a smaller television in your living room and keeping the
oversize screen for a media room or spare room — if you’re lucky enough to have
one — where it can be hidden behind closed doors,” Reinhardt says.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhquGLglahIMcf28sg-mowXdy0q_YqCIOZpJK6K6xDE2Qp_wejLHO2667FH03Gq3dcyRfnu49VRL5N9gzXrEFlO6PHM_QAHeQwZz84OD0bnLjJfCBxx_yFpKGdt3A0iHBjnpZe1XCPDKWkFD7D74z7rwHTwiTDLUstI_UVpHH-JTS9uUymuw7osYi6L" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="625" data-original-width="1000" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhquGLglahIMcf28sg-mowXdy0q_YqCIOZpJK6K6xDE2Qp_wejLHO2667FH03Gq3dcyRfnu49VRL5N9gzXrEFlO6PHM_QAHeQwZz84OD0bnLjJfCBxx_yFpKGdt3A0iHBjnpZe1XCPDKWkFD7D74z7rwHTwiTDLUstI_UVpHH-JTS9uUymuw7osYi6L=w400-h250" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>3. Squashing All the Furniture Against the Wall</b><br />
<br />
“Pushing all your living room furniture up against the walls is another common
styling mistake people make,” Reinhardt says. “I often see rooms where the sofa
is against one wall, with a pair of armchairs against another, and the coffee
table stranded in the middle of the room where nobody can reach it. The result
is a dull room that feels a little like the waiting room in a doctor’s surgery.”<br />
<br />
<b>Solution.</b> “Moving the furniture deeper into the room and setting up
conversational zones will instantly make your living room feel cozier and more
welcoming,” she says.<br />
<br />
“The arrangement that works best will depend on the shape and size of the room.
You may decide to put the sofa against a wall, with a pair of armchairs
opposite it and a coffee table in between them. Or, if your living room is
spacious, you may choose to place the furniture near the middle of the room,
with space around it to move about,” Reinhardt says.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiWWcga5xvWlpTnpkfPxy8NuvyCeA8eEiURSdGFvurUPtgkYa0Be4oWRcS7AkGXGw-0R8QH34mYxysxIua43urerJvUwYNzYlKUSt3zgTcNNXQe6IVRtx5tK4nOFzzCEGrmNHV8nhiMwZYfDWhAV5FKmiCGVkTo1G3EyUfmioG0l6aq2s4KtzqD8htK" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiWWcga5xvWlpTnpkfPxy8NuvyCeA8eEiURSdGFvurUPtgkYa0Be4oWRcS7AkGXGw-0R8QH34mYxysxIua43urerJvUwYNzYlKUSt3zgTcNNXQe6IVRtx5tK4nOFzzCEGrmNHV8nhiMwZYfDWhAV5FKmiCGVkTo1G3EyUfmioG0l6aq2s4KtzqD8htK=w400-h266" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b><br />4. Sofa That’s Too Big or Small</b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>
<br />
</b>“Selecting a sofa that’s the wrong scale for your living room is the
biggest blunder people make,” says Lily Cumberland, interior designer at Coco
Republic. “It’s important to remember that a sofa will often appear to be quite
different in size once it’s out of the showroom and in your home.<b><br />
<br />
</b>“Color can also have an impact on how big a piece appears. A dark sofa with
a skirt that goes to the ground, for example, can look quite heavy or imposing
in a very small living room,” Cumberland says.<b><br />
<br />
Solution.</b> “Measure up your living room, the other furniture in the room,
and the sofa you have your eye on before you buy. Always start with a floor
plan first to ensure that the scale and proportion of the piece works in the
space and provides enough room to move around with ease,” Cumberland says.<b><br />
<br />
</b>“Then consider the style of sofa. In a compact living room, consider a sofa
on legs and with narrow arms to give the illusion of more space. If you have a
large room, you might consider a more substantial sofa, such as one with wide
arms that sits close to the ground,” she says.<b><br />
<br />
Tip:</b> “If you don’t have easy access to a floor plan of your living room,
mark out the size of a potential sofa on the floor with painter’s tape or newspaper
before you buy it to test the dimensions.”<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgaR8da5D-zbmCGk10OVtak9MzU2E9UlRrzOu7BXgYSn4ZnU-9twUhCUD62hygMup3lzQ6u_KHgzIKy7YabKulOpTi5G6kclpVPXoMUgISxj9hCYRao_8ih0xjRJwyO99aFctcTgyArF5tWi5vej423vs71pXoKEIGFg-6Hk6-4zm5ucTheQ_vwBfxY" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="666" data-original-width="1000" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgaR8da5D-zbmCGk10OVtak9MzU2E9UlRrzOu7BXgYSn4ZnU-9twUhCUD62hygMup3lzQ6u_KHgzIKy7YabKulOpTi5G6kclpVPXoMUgISxj9hCYRao_8ih0xjRJwyO99aFctcTgyArF5tWi5vej423vs71pXoKEIGFg-6Hk6-4zm5ucTheQ_vwBfxY=w400-h266" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>5. Bad Lighting<br />
<br />
</b>“Even with the best layout and flow, bad lighting can ruin the look and
feel of your living room,” Cumberland says. “Generally, the problem comes down
to either too much or too little light, and not enough options to allow you to
use the space for different functions.”<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Solution</b>. “Look to create a smart, layered lighting
scheme in your living room consisting of different light sources, such as a
ceiling pendant, table and floor lamps and up or downlights. Setting them on
dimmers allows you to alter the lighting levels and mood to suit the occasion,”
she says.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">“A layered lighting scheme also allows two people to use the
space at the same time for different tasks without disturbing each other. For
example, one person might be watching television with the lights dimmed, while
another person is reading in the corner of the room with a floor light on,”
Cumberland says.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">
</p><p class="MsoNormal">“There are three types of lighting you’ll want to include:
ambient lighting — a gentle wash of light that allows you to move around
safely; accent lighting — to highlight special features in the room, such as
art; and task lighting — for reading and other tasks where you need to see
clearly,” she says.<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQt8X-xouQNS0kUYmPTFmKeCNQcQBjJc6hbjW57dHilJQ83y-Oh1gGmWQ7Ruy4xkSJ4McGaDfy4ppKgfbKmzmLs0V-Y8nKn-rEeSxTk1rEEr-WskJOWXZcS0GnjaSolC5J8JinR3rCIalSpSyvhkSfTERs6XRB8tq4U8gNT55fSrCsFjChFpKv5QM2" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQt8X-xouQNS0kUYmPTFmKeCNQcQBjJc6hbjW57dHilJQ83y-Oh1gGmWQ7Ruy4xkSJ4McGaDfy4ppKgfbKmzmLs0V-Y8nKn-rEeSxTk1rEEr-WskJOWXZcS0GnjaSolC5J8JinR3rCIalSpSyvhkSfTERs6XRB8tq4U8gNT55fSrCsFjChFpKv5QM2=w400-h300" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>6. Artwork Hung Too High<o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal">“Artwork is often hung too high to be properly seen or
appreciated,” says Frances Cosway, principal designer at White Pebble
Interiors. “Gallery style is the only hanging style that allows for artwork to
be hung higher than eye height as it combines artworks of different sizes to
create a wall of art.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>Solution. </b>“Artwork should be hung at eye height, with
the middle of the piece approximately 63 inches from the floor.”<b><o:p></o:p></b></p><p class="MsoNormal">

Tiny Coffee Table</b></p><p></p><p class="MsoNormal">“A coffee table that is too small for the living room and
surrounding furniture is a common sight and leads to a couple of issues,”
Cosway says.<br />
<br />
“First, if your coffee table is not in proportion with the room, sofa and any
armchairs, it looks wrong visually and the space won’t feel cohesive or
comfortable,” she says.<br />
<br />
“A too-tiny coffee table can also prove a practical challenge. If the coffee
table is too small for the sofa or chairs, it will often get positioned far
away from them in an effort to create a sense of balance, which makes it hard
to reach,” Cosway says.<br />
<br />
<b>Solution.</b> “As a rule of thumb, your coffee table should be between half
to one-third of the length of your sofa. Look to position it about 16 to 20
inches from the sofa and armchairs so you can reach it comfortably.”<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">Cabinet-S-Top | 1977 Medina Road | Medina, OH 44256 | 330.239.3630 | www.cabinet-s-top.com</p><p class="MsoNormal">

completely preventable.</div></span></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 7.9pt;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">We know that homeowners spend months researching different
products, styles, looks and designs before making the decision to renovate what
they currently have.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you want to know
the best way to determine if you are working with the right designer and the
right showroom, look no further than the questions that they ask and the
information that they want.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The best
designers become leaders in their fields by exceeding their clients’
expectations.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Before talking about a
cabinet, countertop or dishwasher, they will determine how you want to use your
kitchen and for what specific purposes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>They need to know who in your family will use the kitchen most often,
how often you entertain and the type of entertaining that you do. Knowing all
of the uses and users will help your designer determine your priorities and
budget and provide the information your designer needs to meet your
functionality requirements. The list of uses also enables designers to
determine the types and amount of lighting that you will need for reading, TV
watching, homework, baking, cooking, entertaining or just lounging.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Designers want to know what you like most and least about
your existing kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They want to know
about your style.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They want to know what
you want to store in your kitchen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A
well-designed kitchen is an organized kitchen. Most homeowners appreciate
clean, clutter-free countertops. When a designer knows the utensils, cutlery,
plates, pots, pans, books, computers, small appliances, etc. that you want at
your fingertips, your designer can develop the right storage solutions for your
project. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Designers want to know how you want the new space to feel.
They want to know your favorite colors and styles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Create idea books on Pinterest or Houzz.com
and add your designer as a contributor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>These idea books should include photos of and information about the
appliances, faucets, sinks, lighting fixtures, cabinets, door hardware, tile,
granite, stone or other materials you would like to use in your new kitchen.
Once your designer knows your preferences, he or she can develop the solutions
that meet your needs, preferences and budget.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">All of this information is necessary before a design
discussion can begin.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If you want to
avoid the most common regrets of those who recently remodeled their kitchens,

<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: times;">Five trends in new
tile collections were spotted at the<br />
recent International Surface Event 2023 trade show in Las Vegas<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><o:p><span style="font-family: times;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;">After several years of cool neutrals and bright whites in
tile design, warmer tones and bolder colors are making headway. That was clear
from new tile collections on display at the recent TISE trade show in Las
Vegas. While colors are trending bolder, they’re sophisticated and not overly
bright, expressing restrained exuberance after several quiet years. The
International Surface Event 2023 also showcased new and interesting tile shapes
and plenty of gloss and glam.<br />
<br />
“The overarching trend is this warming of the palette,” says Emily Holle of
surfaces company MSI. The warmth is showing up in the tile world as well as in
interior design, she says. “We’re seeing a shift from all gray and white to
these blonde, warm, earthy tones, the palette warming up with spicy tones,
things like terra cotta and blush tones, kind of a global influence.”<br />
<br />
Many tile displays at TISE included multiple neutral and bold colors — as well
as shapes and textures — within the same collection. “We’re really focusing on
introducing more color, a very popular trend, but also having full collections
of tiles that coordinate with one other, kind of making the design side of it
easier,” says Kathy Greene of Emser Tile.<br />
<br />
Here are highlights from the Jan. 31-Feb. 2 trade show for the tile, stone and
floor coverings industries. The new tile collections will be rolling out
throughout 2023.<br /><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-family: times; font-size: large;">1. Bolder

few years, but today’s forecast calls for a warming trend. Earthy baked clay
tones like terra cotta were in the color palettes of numerous new tile collections
at the show, and in general warmer and bolder colors seem to be on the rise,
including new shades of blue and green and more colorful yet muted neutrals.<br />
<br />
Daltile’s new Farrier collection of glazed ceramic wall tiles, shown here, has
an old-world look with uneven surfaces, giving it handcrafted appeal. The six
available colors reflect the trend of neutrals with the occasional burst of
bold, such as the Blue Roan seen here. The tiles are available in squares and
two rectangle options.<o:p></o:p></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhj1Pq6QrYnO6ImXKhIXWiGChSql1T5gT8JLE35PoyJH66uCYhj5mX3CYO-kWGdTi9Y4-secIMs3zNfhWADrFDJn0nmYZThEPzmyLAxqTiV69sM94sQDQOYkc1s6PU7VSnGfNVuyPNjmBZhobrW-MoLXizFpLDf7RQJdDVPR24b-UZkf0a-GhHAeSEv" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: times;"><img data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhj1Pq6QrYnO6ImXKhIXWiGChSql1T5gT8JLE35PoyJH66uCYhj5mX3CYO-kWGdTi9Y4-secIMs3zNfhWADrFDJn0nmYZThEPzmyLAxqTiV69sM94sQDQOYkc1s6PU7VSnGfNVuyPNjmBZhobrW-MoLXizFpLDf7RQJdDVPR24b-UZkf0a-GhHAeSEv=w240-h320" width="240" /></span></a></div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;">The new earthy color palette seen everywhere at the show was

resurgence of people wanting handmade looks,” Greene says. “What’s nice is all
the pieces are slightly different. They work well together, so visually the
colors [within one color choice] aren’t different but there’s slight mottling
and imperfections, so you have almost a patina that comes in, which is intended
to give it a handmade look.”</span><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"></span></span></p><p class="MsoListParagraph"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOwbCKAuYy1f_NdDDjt8uJU_TFdkWWy0_WUj5zfxuChZAGbhbmuiD1cqsZVKiUUZO7qg4MvCnMyNy4mcXb9rznEsarFPD39IGobENhpo2b1cgE7BgiU3A7MT7OPw79h85P20vhoe_23VQPuoT8LM6IzWhguJ80yXSKgz7mXeOPDU8XIocaWRZVHj31" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: times;"><img alt="" data-original-height="762" data-original-width="975" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOwbCKAuYy1f_NdDDjt8uJU_TFdkWWy0_WUj5zfxuChZAGbhbmuiD1cqsZVKiUUZO7qg4MvCnMyNy4mcXb9rznEsarFPD39IGobENhpo2b1cgE7BgiU3A7MT7OPw79h85P20vhoe_23VQPuoT8LM6IzWhguJ80yXSKgz7mXeOPDU8XIocaWRZVHj31" width="307" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: times;"><br />Emser’s Tubage works vertically or horizontally. Calm colors and touchable textures are appealing to the senses, says Michelle
Corley of Daltile. “This is an example of how interior design is a multisensory
experience. We’re not just looking at color; we’re not just looking at design;
people are expecting a multisensory experience,” she says.</span><p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjGMSoiTb5Tyn6HPaMKGAkbZlubo-_aSbiAIJVEeIqmhizrHmM-_Y-h5YKV1oMEhNGr73wFwla_EdRGyBCUm2pZ3os1OfWUNZVS0YtpyGmmd2wdzO8MrbkMJAutJjN1yPs2RvOVsqmIG2COg9CS6m2p4h5LXTewjOTt-rxGeQ1cn-9q4sOjETO7hIOq" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: times;"><img alt="" data-original-height="975" data-original-width="975" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjGMSoiTb5Tyn6HPaMKGAkbZlubo-_aSbiAIJVEeIqmhizrHmM-_Y-h5YKV1oMEhNGr73wFwla_EdRGyBCUm2pZ3os1OfWUNZVS0YtpyGmmd2wdzO8MrbkMJAutJjN1yPs2RvOVsqmIG2COg9CS6m2p4h5LXTewjOTt-rxGeQ1cn-9q4sOjETO7hIOq" width="240" /></span></a></div><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: times;">Here’s a closer look at Emser’s Newtro tile, in the Ocean

and delivery services for groceries and household goods, pantries have become
almost a necessity in a well-designed and functioning dream kitchen. If there is space, we often recommend a
walk-in pantry because first and foremost a pantry provides added storage space
for nonperishable items and more refrigerator space for items that are
perishable.</p><p><br />Having a place for everything provides several valued
benefits to homeowners. A pantry reduces the number of trips you have
to make to the grocery store or online orders that you have to make and helps
to ensure that you don’t run out of the items you need to prepare your favorite
meals.<br /><br />A walk-in or even a pull-out pantry provides more flexible
space than can be offered by a drawer or cabinet, enabling a kitchen to
function more efficiently. Pantries are
the great organizer. Storing items in
clear containers that are labeled ensures that you will never confuse salt from
sugar. We often recommend to homeowners to organize their pantries in food group
categories such as canned goods with canned goods, spices with spices, pasta
with pasta, grains with grains and so on.
Doing so enables homeowners to easily
find whatever they need to prepare a meal quickly and easily.<br /><br />Pantries also serve as a welcome home for large countertop
appliances that are only used occasionally such as a stand mixer, toaster,
sandwich press, slow cooker and similar items, thereby freeing up valuable
counterspace and heling to ensure a modern clean look. Similarly, the pantry can also house large
roasting pans, stock pots and other cookware items that are only used
occasionally, freeing up drawer and cabinet space for items that are relied
upon almost daily.<br /><br />If your current cabinets and drawers are stuffed to the
gills, you will truly appreciate the benefits of a walk-in or pull-out
pantry. Pantries can all but eliminate
purchasing duplicate items because you did not know that the jar of peanut
butter or the box of cavatelli was hidden behind your five-pound bag of
flour. <br /><br />Pantries make cooking easier. They save money and time and avoid
waste. Plus, they make your kitchen much
more enjoyable to use. Can your new
